The Strike and Defense Fund is set up to help members during a
strike/lockout. We have already helped several members who
were in a bind due to this illegal lockout If you feel you need some
assistance please meet with us. We want to help those members
who have a legitimate need and not those who are just looking for
a handout. Therefore be prepared to answer some questions and
bring some proof of bills due or past due. Any assistance you
receive and the information you share with the committee will
remain confidential. You must also be current on your union dues
and be actively participating in picket duty.
If the funds are available* we are going to continue the $150
payment towards everyone's electric bill every month. The $250
Kroger gift card was a big hit. We would like to do something
similar when and if the money is available. These are our goal
right now but please know that they are subject to change. We as
a committee realize that we have to remain flexible in the type and
amount of assistance being provided, especially the longer this
lockout continues.
Finally, most of you are aware of the accident involving Curtis
Brottem and his resulting paralysis. We are hoping and praying for
his full recovery. The Union has set up a benefit account on his
behalf at Texas State Bank. The account # is 280174923.
Donations can be made at any branch office of the bank. Curtis's
medical bills and long term economic loss is going to be
extensive. Get the word out to your friends and neighbors. Any
